Towers, nacelles, hubs and rotor blades: NEEB erects wind turbines with large crawler and mobile cranes and moves the components to site.

On the wind farm
Wind farms have their own rules: narrow access roads, heavy components at great heights and tight schedules. Narrow-track crawler cranes such as the Liebherr LR 1600/2-W can move fully rigged along the roads between the turbines. The telescopic crawler crane LTR 11200 was designed for the erection of wind turbines, and telescopic crawler cranes such as the LTR 1220 serve as assist cranes for crane assembly and component handling.
In recent years NEEB has added the Liebherr LR 1700-1.0 crawler crane and the Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 mobile crane to its fleet – crane vehicles for the energy transition in Europe.

Our own trucks bring the components, the crane ballast and the equipment to site – one partner from the road to the hook.

A NEEB mobile crane holds the lower end of tower sections and guides a blade of the rotor star while the main crane turns them upright.

Steel sections are lifted one after another; an assist crane holds the lower end while the main crane turns each section upright. Then it is bolted flange to flange.
Wind turbine
Usually the heaviest single lift of the job: the nacelle goes up in one piece and is set down on the tower top.
Wind turbine
Depending on the turbine, hub and blades are pre-assembled on the ground and lifted as a star – as shown here – or the hub goes up first and the blades are fitted one by one.

Crane pad, access road and delivery plan are ready. The crawler crane is rigged on site and NEEB trucks bring the components.
A NEEB mobile crane works as assist crane: it holds the lower end of long parts while the main crane turns them upright.
The first steel section is set onto the foundation anchor and bolted, flange by flange.
Lifted horizontally, turned upright in the air with the assist crane and set down to the centimetre on the section below.
With the last section the tower reaches its full height – the hook now works more than 100 metres up.
Usually the heaviest single lift of the job: the nacelle goes up in one piece and is bolted onto the tower top.
Here hub and blades are pre-assembled on the ground and lifted as a star, guided by the assist crane. Depending on the turbine, the blades are also fitted one by one.
The turbine starts turning – and our crew and cranes move on to the next site.

Projects
Our news show wind farm work in Germany – for example for Vestas and on the Hohe Heide wind farm with the LR 1700 – as well as in Spain, Romania, Sweden and Austria.
